Building and moisture surveying backed by practical experience
Taking Surveying to a higher level
OUR STORY
About Me
I have worked in the building industry for more than 35 years, including over 25 years within surveying. My background includes practical construction, property restoration, moisture investigation and insurance-related reinstatement, providing a detailed understanding of how buildings are constructed, how defects develop and how they should be repaired.
I specialise in investigating dampness, condensation, water ingress and flood damage. My role is not simply to record visible symptoms, but to examine the available evidence, identify the probable cause and provide practical, proportionate recommendations.
I also undertake comprehensive RICS Level 2 and Level 3 surveys, bespoke building surveys and specialist investigations for older, altered, listed and traditionally constructed properties.
My experience also includes assessing for restoring, and repairing buildings affected by:
- Moisture ingress and concealed leaks
- Condensation and mould
- Flood and water damage
- Drying and reinstatement
- Inappropriate or failed previous repairs which includes dam-proofing fails.
Alongside specialist moisture investigations, I undertake comprehensive building surveys for clients purchasing a new home, helping them understand the property’s condition, significant risks and likely repair implications before committing to the purchase. Several survey options are available, including my bespoke Building and Moisture Survey, which combines a detailed assessment of the building with enhanced moisture investigation.
Qualifications & Professional Memberships
I am an Associate member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (AssocRICS), and AK Surveying Services is an RICS-regulated firm. I hold a Level 6 Diploma in Residential Surveying and am also:
- A registered member of the Residential Property Surveyors Association
- An Associate member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers
- An Associate of the British Damage Management Association
- A supporter of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings
I have also achieved a Distinction Certificate in Conveyancing, supporting my understanding of the legal matters that may affect a property purchase.
My carbon literacy training undertaken in conjunction with English Heritage further supports my approach to traditionally constructed and historic buildings, particularly when advising on compatible and sustainable repairs.
Moisture, Drying and Reinstatement Experience
My experience in drying and moisture migration is particularly valuable when investigating severely damp or flood-affected properties. It allows me to provide practical guidance on moisture movement, drying requirements, reinstatement methods and realistic recovery timescales.
